Start with the photographs you would love to give

Perhaps your parents would love a photograph with all the grandchildren. Or your friends are going on a trip they've been talking about for ages, and you'd like them to come home with pictures of themselves there too. A photoshoot is a lovely thought. Choosing the amount gets easier when you can picture what they would enjoy.

The useful first question is whether you want to cover a whole session or give towards one. Both can be thoughtful gifts. The difference is what the recipient understands they are receiving, and whether they are happy to pay anything more for the session they choose.

If you'd like to give the whole shoot, start with a suitable package and its current price. If you'd like to contribute, choose an amount you feel comfortable giving and make that clear in your message. We can help you discuss an option before you buy, so you know what your gift is intended to cover.

There isn't one amount every occasion needs

A birthday, an anniversary and a family thank you can all lead to the same lovely idea. They don't automatically need the same gift value. Think about what you would enjoy giving, what the person would like to receive and the amount that feels right for you.

Someone may be delighted by help towards photographs they already wanted. Another person would prefer a session they can enjoy without paying extra. Knowing which gift you're giving is much more useful than choosing a round number because it looks like a generous present.

You can talk about this without making the gift feel less personal. Ask whether they would love family photographs, pictures as a couple or portraits of their own. Then tell us the place and rough idea you have in mind. A little thought at this stage helps you choose an amount with a clear, happy purpose.

What giving a whole session means

If you want to give the whole experience, ask about a package that fits the recipient's plans. Who would be in the photographs? Where would they love to have them taken? Would they enjoy one small setting or more time together? Those choices help us discuss the session and the amount to give.

Check what the package includes as well as the time with the photographer. The finished photographs matter too. With Travaya, the confirmed package sets the session length and the number of edited photographs delivered in an online gallery. You can explain the gift with those lovely pictures in mind.

A gift card is credit towards the purchase. We confirm the final session, its price and what it includes before booking, and a particular date or photographer isn't guaranteed by the card. If covering everything is important to you, talk to us before buying about the plan, its price and any other costs to allow for.

Three real package examples

Here is a useful starting point. When we checked the London and Lisbon package cards on 3 November 2026, both showed these euro prices. They are examples for choosing a gift value, so check the current price for the recipient's actual plans before buying.

Capture the Moment was €256: a 30-minute session with 15 professionally edited photographs, a private online gallery and high-resolution downloads. It can suit a clear wish in one carefully chosen setting, such as a short portrait session or photographs of a couple on their trip.

Capture the Story was €294: a 60-minute session with 30 professionally edited photographs, a private online gallery and high-resolution downloads. The extra time can leave more room for nearby backgrounds and the people taking part, depending on the plan.

Capture the Adventure was €351: a 90-minute session with 45 professionally edited photographs, a private online gallery and high-resolution downloads. This gives more time to discuss a varied outing, with the route and any extra nearby setting agreed beforehand.

Keep the currency the same when comparing your gift with a package. Prices and available options can change. We confirm the price and what is included for the session they choose with us.

What a €300 gift could look like

Imagine you'd like to give photographs from a couple's city break. Using the €294 example above, a €300 card would cover that session price and leave €6 in credit. They would have a 60-minute session and the 30 edited photographs included in that example package to look forward to.

That is a calculation using the price we checked, rather than a promise that every future session will cost €294. Their final plan may have a different price. Before you buy, tell us where they would like the shoot, who is coming and whether you want the gift to cover the whole booking. We can help you choose an amount for that plan.

The lovely part is what the amount is helping give them: time in a place they are excited to visit, with someone taking photographs of them together. You don't need to make the value larger simply to make the gift feel more personal. Your reason for choosing it can do that beautifully.

What a €150 contribution could mean

Perhaps the person already wants a photoshoot, and you would like to give part of the cost. A €150 card could be a lovely contribution towards the €294 example, leaving €144 for them to pay if they choose that session at that price. It helps to make both parts of that sentence clear.

Give this kind of gift when the recipient would be pleased with a contribution and comfortable choosing how much more to spend. They may already be putting money aside for their photographs, or have asked for gift ideas towards the session. You can share in something they are looking forward to, without needing to cover the full amount yourself.

In your card, you might write that you'd love to help them have photographs from their trip. Say that the amount is towards the session, so they can make their own plan with us. A clear contribution is easy to understand and enjoy. It shouldn't arrive described as a whole photoshoot that turns out to need another payment.

A shared gift can make the session possible together

If several friends or relatives want to give, start with a total everyone is happy to share. Using €300 as an example, three people could give €100 each. Or five people could give €60 each. The same total can come from a different-sized group, as long as everyone has agreed the amount.

Travaya's group gift option divides the gift equally between 2 and 10 people. Each person receives their own payment link, and the organiser can follow the contributions. The recipient is emailed the card once everyone has paid. Leave time for that before the celebration, especially if several people are contributing.

The number of people giving doesn't decide who needs to be in the photographs. A group of siblings might give their parents a couple session, or friends might give one person portraits of their own. You can share the cost of something chosen for the recipient, with a message from all of you about why you thought of them.

Choose the time they would enjoy using

Look at the session length alongside the photographs, rather than treating the longest package as the automatic best gift. Someone who wants portraits in one favourite spot may love a shorter session. Another person might enjoy a little more time to explore nearby settings or have a family pause.

Tell us what you know about their wishes. Perhaps they are hoping for one clear city view, or want photographs with several family members. We can discuss what fits the time available. More minutes don't automatically mean travelling between distant parts of a city, and the route needs to work for the actual booking.

This is where the amount becomes a choice about a lovely day. You might decide to give enough for more time because it fits their plans, or choose a smaller session that fits the photographs they have in mind. A gift chosen around them can feel thoughtful at either length.

Look at the finished photographs too

When comparing offers, check whether edited digital photographs are included, how many there are and how they are delivered. Different photography services arrange their prices differently. A session fee and a package with finished photographs included are different things to give.

For Travaya, we confirm the edited photo count in the package before booking. Those photographs are delivered in an online gallery. If the recipient would like a larger collection or anything beyond the confirmed package, they can discuss the options and price with us. The gift amount should be chosen with the included collection in mind.

An album, professional prints or wall art can be lovely gifts as well, but aren't automatically included with every shoot. Travaya credit can be used towards them as an alternative, with the details and price agreed separately. If your main wish is a framed family photograph, tell us that before choosing how much to give.

Keep the rest of their outing in mind

The photoshoot may be one lovely part of a bigger day. They might enjoy lunch afterwards or be using the gift on a holiday. Those other plans are separate from the photography package. You can choose to give towards them too, but be clear about what you have included in your own gift.

The setting can bring practical costs of its own. If they are hoping for a ticketed place, private venue or a route that needs extra transport, discuss it with us before deciding the value. A photoshoot gift card doesn't automatically include admission or private access. The exact plan and any costs need to be agreed.

There may be a simple option they would enjoy just as much. Perhaps the lovely view they want is in one area they are already visiting. You can ask us to help think through the possibilities. The aim is to understand the gift you're giving and the plan they would be happy to make.

If you don't know where they'll use the gift yet

You may know the person would love photographs, while their next trip is still an idea. You can choose an amount rather than deciding the location for them. Explain that it is credit they can use towards the session they arrange with us, leaving room for their own plans.

If you want the amount to cover a whole session, ask us for help with that choice before buying. Tell us what you do know: the kind of photographs they enjoy, who they might want beside them and whether close to home or a trip is more likely. We can discuss suitable options and what still needs to be decided.

The card is valid for 24 months. That leaves time to make a plan, though a particular photographer, place or date still needs to be confirmed. If they would love somewhere outside our published destinations, they can tell us. We discuss availability and the practical details before agreeing the booking.

What happens if their choice costs more or less?

The recipient's gift credit goes towards the purchase. If the session they choose costs more, they can pay the difference. If it costs less, the unused credit stays on the card until it is used or expires. You can explain this simply when giving an amount rather than a fixed plan.

For another example, a €350 gift would be €1 short of the €351 ninety-minute package shown above. A round amount can be close to a package price without covering it fully. Comparing the two before you buy helps you decide whether to change the gift value or give it as a contribution.

The recipient can ask us about a plan that fits the credit, or one they would like to add to. That choice can stay theirs. You have given towards photographs they would enjoy, and a clear explanation of the amount helps them make their next plans.

Add a message that explains the lovely reason

Once you've chosen the amount, return to the person you are giving it to. Why did this idea make you think of them? Perhaps they'd love photographs with their children, or you want them to remember the trip they've been planning. Put that thought into the message on the card.

You might write: “A little towards the photographs you've been looking forward to. We'd love you to have some beautiful memories from your trip.” Or, after discussing a full-session gift with us, explain that you wanted to give them time in the pictures together. Use the words that fit your actual gift.

You can explore the options through our Travaya photoshoot gift cards. Choose the package or amount, add your message and pick the design. You have thought about the pictures they would love and what you want to cover. Now you can look forward to giving them something they can make their own.
