They've Opened the Gift Card. What Happens Next?
The envelope is open, and someone lovely has a photoshoot to look forward to. Now comes the fun of making it theirs. Here's how a Travaya gift card becomes plans for a place they love, time with their favourite people and photographs to bring home.

A Gift With a Little Adventure Still Inside
If you're the person holding the card, hello! You don't need to arrive with a complete photoshoot plan. You might know exactly which city you'll be visiting, or only that you'd love a photograph with your sister. Tell us where you're starting. We'll help you think through the session, find a suitable professional photographer and agree the details together.
And if you're the person thinking of giving it, this is the part you may want to picture before buying. What will they actually do with it? Let's walk through that, from keeping the card handy to opening the gallery afterwards. There are real views of our website below, so you can see where the lovely plans begin.
First, Keep the Card Somewhere You Can Find It
Have a look at the value and expiry too. The card is valid for 24 months, with the expiry shown on your card. You don't have to decide on your session during the birthday lunch, but knowing the date gives you room to think about a season or trip you'd enjoy. If anything about the card is unclear, ask us while you have it in front of you.
For a group gift, the card is issued once all the contributions have been paid. If you've been told a present is coming but the email hasn't arrived yet, ask the organiser to check whether everyone's payment has come through. They can follow the contributions. Once the card arrives, you can start choosing what you'd enjoy.
Open the Door to Your Own Plans
The view below shows that page on 3 November 2026. “Find your destination” is a place to start looking; “Ask about redeeming” is there when you'd rather talk your idea through. You aren't expected to know your favourite street, session length and photographer before saying hello. Browsing a destination also doesn't reserve a session. The actual arrangements come next, with us.
Maybe you'll recognise a city you're already excited to visit. Maybe seeing the destinations gives you the first proper idea of what you'd like. Enjoy that part. A gift can be given in a moment, then open up a few lovely possibilities you hadn't thought about until you had it in your hands.
A Look at Where You Can Begin

Start With the Photograph You'd Love to Have
Then think about the feeling of the photographs. Perhaps you like pictures with the city all around you, or you'd rather have a quieter setting with trees and room to wander. You can share a few examples and tell us what you like about them. A favourite picture can help explain a wish that feels difficult to put into words.
For a session on a trip, tell us the place and the dates you'll be there. For photographs closer to home, let us know the area you have in mind. If your location isn't listed on the site, ask us about it. We can discuss places beyond the published destinations and confirm the photographer, available dates and practical details with you.
You can also want photographs just for yourself. A birthday, a new chapter or the simple wish to have pictures you like is enough to start the conversation. You don't need to gather a group to make your gift worth using. The point is to make something you'd be pleased to look back on.
Your First Message Can Be Quite Simple
For example, a first enquiry could sound like this: “I've received a Travaya gift card and would love some photographs with my partner on our trip to Lisbon. We'll be there for four days in May. We like pictures with the streets around us and would love some help choosing the place and session.” That's an example to make your own, with your place, people and possible dates.
In that example, you know the destination, who is coming and the kind of photographs you'd like. The exact meeting point and available time can be discussed afterwards. If all you know is that the family will be together during the school holidays, start there and tell us what you're still working out.
Share anything that will help make the day comfortable for you. Perhaps a parent would prefer less walking, or you're bringing young children and would like a manageable plan. Those details help us discuss a suitable session before you commit. You can ask for help without first becoming the person who has worked everything out for everyone else.
We Help Turn the Idea Into a Session
The confirmed package matters as much as the place. It sets how long the session lasts and how many edited photographs you'll receive in the online gallery. If you're imagining pictures with several generations, tell us who is coming. If you're dreaming of a little walk on holiday, tell us which views have caught your eye. The plan should fit the people and the time you have.
Before booking, we confirm the photographer, date, package and practical details together. Looking at a destination page, saving a photograph or starting an enquiry isn't the same as a final booking. Once we've agreed those arrangements, you'll know which session to look forward to and when to be there.
What Happens to the Gift Card Balance?
Imagine, simply as an example, that you have €200 in credit and agree on a purchase of €260. The card covers €200 and the remaining amount is €60. Those are example amounts to show how the balance works. We'll confirm the actual session and price for your plans.
You don't have to choose something more expensive because you're using a present. Tell us what you'd be happy spending, including if you'd prefer to keep within the gift's value. It helps to have that conversation while choosing the session. A lovely photograph should be something you can look forward to without quietly worrying about the cost.
The Four Steps on Our Recipient Page
A Few Details Make the Day Easier to Enjoy
Ask about anything that affects your plans before booking. If you're hoping to photograph somewhere with an entrance fee or special permission, we'll need to discuss that place. If weather could affect an outdoor session, ask what happens if the plans need to change. We can talk through the arrangements for your own session, so you know what to expect.
You can leave room around the appointment too. Perhaps you'll go for lunch afterwards or explore a little more of the neighbourhood. If you're on holiday, it can be nice to make the photos part of a day you're already looking forward to. You don't need to fill every hour for the gift to feel special.
And if being photographed feels new, tell us. You can talk about what you'd enjoy and what makes you unsure. There's no need to pretend you've done this many times before. Being able to say “we'd love some pictures together, but we're a little nervous” gives us a much better place to start than leaving you to worry about it alone.
Then Comes the Gallery
Opening that gallery gives you another part of the experience to enjoy. You might find the photograph you'd imagined from the beginning, or discover that a different one is your favourite. A familiar smile, your children together, the buildings that remind you of being away. It's lovely to have time to look properly, then come back and look again.
If you'd like an album, professional prints or wall art, talk to us about those separately. They aren't automatically included with every photoshoot. Your Travaya credit can also be used towards those options instead, with the choices and price discussed with our team. Perhaps you already have photographs you love and would be happier bringing those into your home. Tell us that too.
If You're Not Quite Ready Yet
If the email is missing, check the spam or junk folder first. Then contact us so we can help look into the gift. Once the purchase is verified, we can resend the existing card. If we need to check your code, have a look at the characters and the recipient email address linked to it. Send us the gift details through our contact channel and we'll help look into it.
The person who gave it can be useful here, particularly if they have the purchase information or printed the card themselves. You can ask for that without asking them to plan the whole session. A little help finding an email is sometimes all you need to get back to the fun part of choosing your photographs.
For the Person Who Gave It
Let them enjoy making it their own, though. They may choose a different setting from the one you had in mind, or use it later in the year. You chose a gift for their photographs and their life. You can leave the timing with them and enjoy hearing about the plans when they're ready to share them.
If they'd like to share a favourite picture afterwards, how lovely. You might recognise the reason you chose the gift in the first place: all the family together, your friend looking happy on a trip, your parents with the grandchildren. The envelope has become something with their own people and memories in it.
Give Them a Lovely Beginning
Choose a gift for the photographs they'd love to have. We'll help them make the plans when they're ready to begin.
A Few Things You Might Be Wondering
On our main gift card page, choose “Redeem a gift card”. The recipient page lets you explore a destination or contact us about using your gift. Have your unique code and recipient email address ready so we can verify the card and apply its credit.
No. It's a way to explore what you'd enjoy. We confirm a suitable photographer, available date, package and practical details together before the booking is final. You can start with an idea and ask us to help work out the rest.
Yes, tell us the people, setting and style you'd love. Sharing a few favourite examples can help. We use your wishes to help plan the session and find a suitable professional photographer; a particular photographer isn't guaranteed.
The gift credit goes towards the agreed purchase, and you can pay the difference. We'll discuss the price with you before booking. Any unused credit remains on the card until it's used or expires, within the card's 24-month validity.
They can talk to us about using the credit towards an album, professional prints or wall art instead. We help with the choices, price and applying the balance. These are alternatives for using the credit, rather than extras included with every photoshoot.
