What to Ask for as a Wedding Gift: Your Wedding Album

Already have a home full of things you love? A wedding album could be a lovely gift to ask for. We’ll show you how to put it on your wish list, welcome small or shared gifts and choose the words that feel like you. The photos and pages can wait until after the big day!

A wedding gift you can keep opening together

Maybe the two of you already have your favourite mugs, a sofa you love and enough serving bowls for a very large dinner party. Now someone asks what you’d like for your wedding, and you look around your home thinking, “Actually, we’re quite happy with all of this.”

You could ask for help with a trip, a shared plan or something you’d love to keep from the day itself. A wedding album is one lovely option. Picture it open across your laps a few months after the celebration. There’s the laugh you missed during the speeches, a hug from someone who travelled so far and that photo of the two of you just before everything began.

If that sounds like a gift you’d enjoy, you can put it on your wish list before the wedding. You may also see it called a wedding registry: it’s simply the place where guests can find your gift wishes. You don’t need the photos yet, and you don’t have to choose the cover while you’re still choosing flowers. Your guests can help make the album possible now; the personal details can come later.

We’ll walk through the different ways to ask, with a few messages you can make your own. It starts with a simple thought: tell people why you’d love this gift, while leaving everyone free to decide what they’d like to give.

Tip: If you’re thinking of an album, our wedding-album gift card lets someone give an amount towards it. You choose your photos and album with us later and agree the price before the book is made.

One full gift, a shared gift or an album fund?

You can choose the way of giving that fits your guests and the wish list you’re using. These three options sound similar, but it helps to know what each one means.

One person gives the album. Someone close to you may ask whether they can give one bigger present. An album could be a beautiful answer. Talk about what you have in mind and the possible cost first, so a promise to buy the whole book is clear. You can still choose the photos, size and cover after the wedding. There’s no need for the person giving it to guess those for you.

A few people give together. Parents, friends or siblings may like to share one gift. Some wish lists allow different amounts towards an item; others work in another way. With Travaya’s own group option, 2–10 people split the gift into equal shares, each with a payment link. The gift card is sent when everyone has paid. That can suit a small group who have already agreed to give together.

Guests give to a named album fund. An open fund is a money-gift option on a wish-list service that offers it. You could call it “Our Wedding Album” and explain that you’ll use the money towards the book after the photos arrive. Choose a service and payment method that work for you, then check its fees, how you receive the money and whether guests can choose their own amount. This is different from buying a Travaya gift card together.

You can leave other small wishes on your list too. Every guest has their own budget and their own way of giving. Making the album one clear option lets people choose it because they’d love to help.

What to write on your wedding registry

Start with the part you mean most: you’re happy these people are celebrating with you. Then say what you’d love, why it matters and that giving is optional. You don’t need to turn it into a long explanation. A few lines that sound like you are enough.

For a wedding website or wish list, you could write:

“We’re so happy you’ll be celebrating with us! If you’d also like to give a gift, we’d love a little help towards our wedding album. We’ll make it with our favourite photos after the day. Whether you give something and how much is completely up to you.”

If you’ve already made a home together, try:

“Our home already has lots of things we love, so we’re hoping for a gift full of memories. We’d be so happy with a contribution towards the wedding album we’ll keep opening together. Having you with us is what we’re looking forward to most.”

You can make either message more yours. Perhaps you can’t wait to show your children the photos one day. Perhaps you love looking through your parents’ album and want a book of your own. One little reason helps your guests picture what their gift will become.

If someone asks in person, a simple answer works too: “We’d really love an album of our wedding photos. We’ve put a way to give towards it on our wish list, and we’ll choose the photos afterwards.” Then the conversation can carry on. There’s no need to make it feel like a big announcement.

What can be given now, before the photos are ready?

The gift can be the promise of an album to come. A guest might give money towards your fund, buy an album gift card or write a card saying they’d like to help pay for the book. You’ll still have something lovely to open on the wedding day, even though the album itself comes later.

With a Travaya gift card, the person giving it chooses an amount. It becomes credit towards the album you discuss with us, rather than a fixed book package. You confirm the size, pages, cover and actual price before ordering. If the gift covers part of it, you can add the rest or choose an album that suits the amount you want to spend.

Someone paying for a Travaya gift alone can email it to you, schedule the email or print the PDF to put inside a personal card. With the group option, your gift card is emailed once all the shares have been paid. The credit is valid for 24 months, so keep the expiry date somewhere you’ll find it when you’re ready.

For another company’s card, check its details before adding it to your list. Where does it work, what does the amount cover and how long do you have? Once you know that, your note can stay short and warm. The guests see the lovely part: they’re helping give your wedding photos a place in your home.

Tip: If your album fund doesn’t reach the amount you hoped for, you can add the difference or choose a book that fits your budget. Check how your wish-list service handles the money first, then explain the plan without asking guests to fill a gap.

The photos, the cover and the little choices stay yours

Once the full wedding gallery arrives, you can choose the moments you want to keep coming back to. There may be a beautiful photo of the two of you and a slightly less graceful one from the dance floor. If it makes you laugh every time, it probably deserves a look in.

You can ask for help with the first design and still have a say in every page. With Travaya, you share full-size photo files or a gallery we can access. Your own wedding photographer’s pictures are welcome, with permission to have them printed. Check your agreement before sharing the files, so everything is ready when you want to begin.

Then think about the book itself. Would you like a smaller album to take to family, or a bigger one for looking through at home? Which cover colour would you enjoy seeing on your shelf? The number of pages and the choices you make can affect the price, so talk those through before the order is confirmed.

This leaves room for a lovely surprise too. You might discover that your friends gave together or that a parent has offered to pay for more of the album than you expected. They’ve helped make the book happen, while you still get to make it feel like the two of you.

Save the album wish for later

Keep the wording and gift options together for the day you sit down to write your wish list.

Write a little note and leave the pages for later

You don’t need to have the whole album planned before you ask for it. You just need to know you’d love a book of your wedding photos, and choose a clear way for people to give towards it if they wish.

Put the message on your wedding website or wish list. If family members are asked about gifts, they can point people there. Then you can get back to the wedding plans, knowing that another lovely part is waiting for you afterwards. One card now, and a book full of your favourite people later!
