Family photographs before a new arrival

This Indian family had been living in Lisbon for a long time. With the mother expecting a baby, they made photographs together with their twelve-year-old daughter at Praça do Comércio. Their family and maternity photoshoot in Lisbon brought the three of them into the frame, combining portraits of the family as it was with little details of the arrival they were preparing for.

The three of them at Praça do Comércio

A tall green doorway and the square’s yellow walls gave the family a shared backdrop. They stood close together, looked towards one another and placed their hands around the mother’s belly. Individual portraits of their daughter sit alongside photographs of her parents and of all three together. Beneath the arcade, they walked hand in hand, adding the long stone arches to this collection of family memories.

Small details of a new family chapter

Ultrasound photographs appear throughout the collection: in the mother’s hands, held up in front of the square and carried by her daughter with the parents behind her. Close photographs focus on joined hands and the baby bump, while portraits beside the Tagus bring the water into view.
