Taking a little of Lucca with them

Before moving to Pescara, Laura and Paolo wanted to take a little of Lucca with them. We met them on the evening of 4 June for a couple photoshoot in Lucca, in the city where they fell in love and built their life together.

Paolo has lived in Lucca his whole life: he grew up here, went to school here and knows its corners well. Laura is originally from Pescara and moved to Lucca, where their story together began. Paolo proposed here too. With a new chapter ahead, these photographs were a lovely way to remember the place that holds so much of their history.

Warm façades and familiar streets

We spent time among the old town’s narrow lanes and archways, with Guinigi Tower peeking out above the street. Outside the Basilica di San Frediano, pale stone and an impressive wooden doorway gave us a different setting, and the colourful façades of Piazza dell’Anfiteatro opened up around us. Laura’s mustard-yellow dress looked beautiful with the warm buildings, while Paolo’s soft peach shirt and dark shorts kept the colours easy and natural. Together, the streets and piazza gave their gallery that unmistakable Lucca feel.

A little green around the city walls

The city walls brought another side of Lucca into the photographs. Around the brick archways, curved walls and leafy paths, we had room for wider views as well as quieter portraits together. The green surroundings made Laura’s dress stand out beautifully, and a bench beneath the trees gave the gallery a softer setting. It was a lovely balance with the stone lanes and lively façades of the old town.

The little details that make it Lucca

A red Vespa against a stone wall, leafy branches and San Frediano’s bell tower: these smaller settings belong in the story too. Alongside the wider city views, they help make the photographs personal to this place. We kept a few black-and-white images in the gallery as well, giving their memories of Lucca a lovely mix of colour and texture.
