A little of everything we love about Florence

Between the Duomo, Piazza della Signoria and the Arno, this Florence couple photoshoot gave us such a lovely mix of settings. We had intricate marble, warm stone doorways, long rows of arches and those unmistakable views of Ponte Vecchio. His blue shirt and her simple white dress worked beautifully with the city’s colours, keeping the photographs connected even as the backgrounds changed.

Marble details around the Duomo

The cathedral brings so much character to the photographs. Up close, there are carved doors and layers of green, white and pink marble; from a little further away, the architecture gives the couple a wonderful sense of scale. Their light outfits fitted the setting beautifully. We combined those wider Florence views with closer portraits, so the Duomo feels part of their photographs without filling every one in the same way.

The Duomo’s patterned marble gives the photographs a distinctly Florence setting.

Piazzas, doorways and a softer kind of Florence

There was plenty of variety away from the cathedral entrance too. Piazza della Signoria brought its grand fountain and stone buildings into the gallery, while the wooden doorways and pale arches gave us quieter-looking backgrounds for portraits together. We loved how the blue shirt and white dress carried through all these places. A few black-and-white photographs bring out the lines of the architecture and give the gallery a different feel.

Room for the river and Ponte Vecchio

By the Arno, the photographs open out to the water, the bridge and the colourful buildings along the river. There is a lovely balance between the close portraits and the wider views here: Florence stays unmistakable, with plenty of room for the couple in the picture. Together with the marble and archways, these riverside photographs make a varied collection from their time in the city.
