A little family time in Florence

Santa Maria Novella gave us such a lovely setting for this family photoshoot in Florence. We photographed this family of four around the marble doorways and arches, then made room for the basilica’s beautiful facade in the wider views. Their white outfits looked wonderful against the pale green doors and warm stone, keeping the whole gallery feeling light and connected.

White outfits and Florence’s lovely details

There is so much colour in the architecture here, even when the overall feeling is soft: faded green doors, dark marble stripes and the warmer stone underneath the arches. The family’s simple white outfits fitted it all beautifully. We used those doorways for photographs together and the open space in front for a little walking, giving the gallery a mix of closer portraits and roomier views of Florence.

A little space for the children

We also made time for photographs of the three children together, and for smaller family portraits around the same area. There are lovely smiles and playful moments in this part of the gallery, alongside some quieter portraits by the stone walls. Keeping the setting connected let the family photographs and the children’s pictures sit naturally together, with colour and black-and-white images adding variety.

The full facade brings another side of the shoot into the photographs. Out on the square, the patterned marble, the round window and the flowerbeds give everything a clear sense of place. We loved combining those wider Florence views with the more intimate family portraits: the same four people, the same light outfits, and a lovely range of photographs to remember their time together.
