Florence spread out below us

The view from San Miniato al Monte gave us a beautiful backdrop for this couple photoshoot in Florence. The cathedral dome rises above the rooftops, with green trees and hills softening the edges of the city. We brought that wide view together with closer portraits of the couple, making a gallery that has room for both Florence and the two people in it.

The couple’s presence changes the scale of that familiar skyline. In a wide frame, they share the view with the city; up close, a smile or joined hands becomes the centre of the photograph. Travaya carried both into this shoot, so Florence stays connected to the people standing above it.

Light outfits against the city and trees

Their outfits fitted the setting so well: a pale printed dress with a dark belt, alongside a white T-shirt and beige trousers. Those light colours stand out against the leafy trees without competing with the rooftops below. Along the stone balustrade, we made photographs that show the full view as well as closer portraits with the Duomo softly in the background. The mix keeps the city present, even when the couple fill most of the photograph.

A different shape to the view

The broad staircase brings lovely lines into the photographs. Pale balustrades run across the hillside, with a tall cypress and fuller trees around them. We used the steps for full-length portraits and photographs of the couple walking together, giving their gallery a different scale from the close city-view portraits. The patterned dress, pale stone and green foliage sit beautifully together, while the black-and-white photographs bring out the shapes of the stairs and the texture of the railings.

That shift continues among the stairs and trees, where the photographs move between space around them and the closeness of an embrace. The viewpoint gallery has several moods within one setting.

A little space beneath the stone arch

The tall arched recess adds a quieter background to the collection. Its pale stone gives the closer portraits a simple setting, while the wider photographs show just how much architecture surrounds the couple. We kept both colour and black-and-white versions here, each bringing something different to the stonework.
