From Madeira to Lisbon: A Couple Photoshoot

Their story began as high school sweethearts in Madeira. After moving to Lisbon for study and work, they made time for photographs in their new city.

Memories of a city becoming home

This couple’s story began in Madeira, where they were high school sweethearts. They had recently moved to Lisbon for their studies and work and wanted photographs of their time together in the city they were getting to know. Their relaxed photoshoot in Lisbon took them through Bica, among colourful tiled walls, little stairways and old streets. The collection follows the two of them through the neighbourhood with plenty of shared smiles.

Tiles, doorways and the yellow funicular

Bica’s streets supplied a changing backdrop throughout the shoot. A yellow funicular appears behind an embrace, while green doorways and climbing plants frame other portraits. Against a wall of pink patterned tiles, they stood apart, held hands and came together for a closer photograph. The wide views keep the colour and texture of the neighbourhood in the collection, alongside the smaller gestures between them.

A walk through their new city

Along the narrow streets, they walked hand in hand, turning towards each other and laughing as they went. There were pauses on a little doorstep, beside a yellow stairway wall and at a railing overlooking the street. Some photographs are playful, others quieter. Together, they record a part of Lisbon at the start of this new stage in their lives, with the relationship they brought from Madeira at the centre.
