1. Charles Bridge: A Very Good Place to Start

Charles Bridge is one of those places you look forward to before you’ve even packed. Old towers, stone statues and the river on both sides, with Prague Castle above Malá Strana’s red roofs. It’s a wonderful first taste of the city. From beside the river, the view changes again: now you can see the bridge’s arches stretching across the water.

An early start can give you more room to enjoy it, though Charles Bridge has plenty of other fans too. Yes, even before breakfast! Our guide to five favourite Charles Bridge photo spots explores the lovely stairs, corners by the water and tower views in more detail.

2. Old Town Square: There’s More Than the Clock

The Astronomical Clock may bring you to Old Town Square, but there’s so much more to love here. Pointed towers, pretty roofs and buildings full of little details surround the open square. It’s the kind of place where you turn around to admire one view and spot another behind you. A rather nice problem to have on holiday.

The small lanes nearby add wooden doors, warm stone and streets that curve out of sight. They give this part of Prague a different feel from the big square, with plenty of beautiful backgrounds along the way. When people gather for the clock’s show, the other sides of the square still have lots to enjoy.

3. Kampa and Malá Strana: A Canal, a Mill and Pretty Lanes

Just below Charles Bridge, Kampa brings you closer to the water and Prague’s smaller corners. There’s a canal, an old mill and little crossings between the buildings. The stone steps from the bridge are lovely in their own right, with old walls and arches nearby. It’s an easy place to lose track of time in the nicest way.

Around the Lennon Wall, bright colours change the scene again, with wooden doors and ivy adding more details nearby. Together with the surrounding Malá Strana streets, Kampa has a lot to enjoy in a short wander. The public lanes are full of lovely finds; a pretty courtyard may belong to someone, so its entrance needs a quick check.

4. Prague Castle and HradÄŤany: Big Gates, Small Streets

Big castle gates, an open square and beautiful buildings all around you. Hradčanské Square gives you that grand Prague feeling before you’ve even explored the rest of the area. It’s a lovely setting for holiday photos, with the castle bringing a little extra occasion to an ordinary morning out. Not bad for a city stroll!

The nearby streets are part of the fun too. Steps, old lamps and lanes run between the buildings, with views of the city appearing along the way. For any particular garden or building on your wish list, the castle’s opening information is worth checking. The grounds, buildings and gardens have different hours.

5. Letná: All Those Bridges in One View

After exploring Prague’s little streets, Letná gives you the joy of seeing the city spread out below. The Vltava bends through the view, with one bridge after another and red roofs beyond the water. Charles Bridge is down there too, looking quite different from up here. Suddenly, all those places you’ve been walking between fit together.

The view is a beautiful reason to visit, but the park has more to enjoy: wide paths, trees and benches for a welcome break. It’s a lovely choice for photos with lots of Prague around you, followed by a little time to sit and take it all in. Your feet might be quite pleased with that part.

6. Petřín: Find Prague Through the Trees

A path through the trees, then a glimpse of red roofs or the castle. Petřín has a lovely way of making a walk feel full of little finds. The greenery gives this part of Prague a softer feel, with the city appearing through gaps in the leaves. It’s a good choice when you fancy some time among the trees between the big sights.

Letná has the wide river view; Petřín brings smaller glimpses of Prague along the hillside paths. Both are beautiful, just in different ways. The hill takes a little time and effort, so this is a place to leave room for in your day, with the walk itself part of the pleasure.

7. Legion Bridge and Střelecký Island: City Above, River Below

Old lamps, passing trams and the river below. Most Legií, or Legion Bridge, has such a lovely mix of city life and water views, with the National Theatre nearby. The pavements give you places to enjoy it while keeping clear of the tracks and traffic. It’s a different feel from Charles Bridge, and a beautiful part of Prague to discover.

Below the bridge, Střelecký Island brings trees, paths and views across the water. Gaps between the trees at the north end look towards Charles Bridge, and the old staircase adds another pretty detail. You can see both settings in this couple’s afternoon around Legion Bridge and the island. The island has gates and sometimes hosts events, so its official opening information helps with an early or late visit.

8. Vrtba and Wallenstein Gardens: Prague in Green

Vrtba Garden feels like a little discovery among the city streets. Stone steps lead between neat hedges and gardens on different levels, with more to see as the garden rises. It’s easy to picture beautiful holiday photos among these green corners. The garden needs a ticket and opens for part of the year; its opening information helps you plan a visit. For a Travaya shoot here, we’ll check the garden’s photography arrangements first.

Wallenstein Garden has surprises of its own. There are statues, a pond and a large open hall called the Sala Terrena. Then there’s the strange wall that looks as though a cave has wandered into the garden. There are peacocks too! It’s a lovely sightseeing stop, with photography limited to private, non-commercial use. Equipment set-ups and taking over space are not allowed, so a professional shoot needs another setting.

9. Charles Square: Time for a Park Break

Some of the nicest parts of a city break happen when you pause between the big sights. Charles Square is a good place for that. Trees, flower beds and a fountain bring a bit of green to the day, with church towers above the buildings around the park. It has a more everyday Prague feel than the castle or the famous bridge, and that’s part of its charm.

For families, a park break can be a very welcome plan. Couples and solo travellers have plenty to enjoy here too, especially when a gentle walk sounds better than another climb. Flowers change with the season, while the trees and surrounding city give the park plenty of character throughout the year.

Put a Few Favourite Places into Your Day

Old Town, Charles Bridge and Kampa make a lovely first outing. The square gives way to the river, then to little lanes and the canal, with plenty to enjoy between them. The castle area deserves time of its own, while Letná and Petřín are lovely choices for a day when you feel like exploring further.

A few favourite places, with time for a break along the way, can make a wonderful Prague day. There’s room for the little corner that catches your eye too. Views change with the season, and trees may hide something you’ve seen in an older photo. Finding a new favourite is part of the fun.
