Find a Green Place You’ll Love Spending Time In

After the big squares and busy streets, a garden can be a lovely change of pace. There is time to notice the shapes of the trees, follow a path that catches your eye and stay a little longer by a view. Your favourite part of Prague might turn out to be one of these quieter moments between the sights.

The castle gardens and Vrtba bring old stone and carefully kept planting together. Petřín gives you a hillside walk, while Letná opens out towards the river and city. Charles Square fits a green pause into a day among the buildings. Wallenstein is a beautiful sightseeing stop for your own holiday pictures, with different rules from a booked shoot.

Choose somewhere you would enjoy even with the camera put away. That might mean a short, gentle walk with the family, or a few garden steps and a view you would happily linger over together.

1. Prague Castle Gardens: A Green Walk Beside the Castle

After looking up at Prague Castle’s grand buildings, the gardens give you a reason to slow down and look around. A path beside an old wall, the shape of a tree or a view through the planting can hold your attention for a little longer than you expected. You still feel close to the castle, with room for a gentle walk together.

The Royal Garden is a good place to start if you love green spaces with historic buildings around them. There are open areas and flower beds to enjoy, with different things catching your eye as you walk. The South Gardens sit below the castle, where the city becomes part of the visit too. If the thought of Prague’s roofs beyond the garden makes you smile, these are the ones to look at more closely.

These are separate gardens, so choose the exact one before arranging a visit or shoot. The castle garden pages help with that choice. Check the garden opening information as well: some main gardens close in winter, and their hours differ from the wider castle grounds. An agreed entrance makes meeting up much easier.

2. Wallenstein Garden: A Little Surprise Beyond the Paths

Wallenstein Garden has an elegant side and a wonderfully curious one. Statues line the paths, a large pond invites a longer look, and the open hall called the Sala Terrena makes the garden feel like part of a palace. Then there is the wall that looks like the inside of a cave. It is a lovely surprise among the neat planting and old stone.

This is a place to enjoy slowly on a sightseeing day, with your own holiday photos along the way. The paths, trees and garden shapes give you plenty to notice even when flowers are not the main attraction.

The Senate’s visitor rules limit photography to personal, non-commercial use. Photography setups and occupying space for pictures are not allowed, so we do not include Wallenstein as a professional photoshoot location. Keep it for your own visit, and check the current opening information before going. The garden closes during heavy rain.

3. Petřín: Make Time for a Walk Through the Trees

Petřín is for the days when a walk is part of the pleasure. Paths wind across the hillside, with fruit trees, gardens and glimpses of Prague along the way. A bench with a view can turn a quick stop into a much longer one. Up near the top, the rose garden adds another place to explore when it fits your route and the season.

There is more here than you need to cover in one outing. Choose a small part you are excited about, leaving time to enjoy the trees and views instead of hurrying across the whole hill. For photos, that might give you both a green setting close around you and a little of Prague beyond the leaves.

The official Petřín page introduces the different areas. Hills and steep paths make the meeting place important, especially with a pushchair or anyone who would prefer less climbing. Check current transport information if your plan depends on the funicular. For a Travaya shoot, tell us what sort of walk feels comfortable and we’ll plan the approach with you.

Roses and blossom depend on the season and weather. They can be a lovely part of the visit, while the trees, paths and city views give you other things to look forward to.

4. Letná: A Park Walk with Prague Spread Out Below

Letná is the place for a big view and a little time to take it in. The river bends below the park, with bridges crossing the water and roofs stretching across Prague. You may recognise places you have already explored, now seen from a completely different angle. It is a lovely way to pause and see how the city fits together.

The view is only part of the outing. Broad paths and large trees give you room for a walk through the park, with places to sit along the way. A photo here can hold the city in the distance, or simply a green part of the afternoon you spent together.

Choose Letná for trees and city views rather than a formal flower garden. Popular viewpoints can be busy, so leave time for the rest of the park too. The official Letná page gives you a feel for the area before you go.

5. Vrtba Garden: A Small Garden with More to Discover

Vrtba is a smaller garden that gives you reasons to keep looking. Steps lead between different levels, with neat hedges, statues and old stone around them. Each level changes your view of the garden, so a short distance can still feel full of little discoveries.

If you love the idea of dressing up for a garden visit, this is a beautiful setting to have in mind. The shapes of the steps and planting give it character even when there is no big flower display. Leave time to enjoy the garden itself, including a pause between the climbs, so the visit feels as good as the pictures look.

Entry is ticketed and seasonal. The operator’s opening information gives the current hours and admission details. For a Travaya shoot, we’ll check the professional photography arrangements before including Vrtba in your plan. A visitor ticket alone does not confirm those arrangements.

6. Charles Square: A Green Pause in a City Day

Charles Square lets you stay among Prague’s buildings while taking a little park break. Large trees, planted beds and a fountain give you things to enjoy close by, with the city still around you. It is the sort of stop that can make a busy sightseeing day feel a little more like a holiday again.

There is room in your Prague photos for this gentler side of the city too. A path beneath the trees or the fountain with the New Town Hall tower behind it can be just as much a memory of the trip as one of the famous bridges. Flowers change with the season, while the old trees and surrounding buildings give the park its own character.

One Travaya couple paired Charles Square Park with the National Theatre for two different settings in their photographs. The park brought green paths and flowers into their collection alongside the grand buildings. The city’s Charles Square page has more about the setting.

Enjoy the Garden You Find on the Day

The same garden can feel quite different from one visit to another. Autumn may bring colour to the paths, bare branches can reveal more of the buildings, and shade beneath the trees can be a welcome part of a warmer day. Flowers are a pleasure when they are there, but a photograph from another month cannot promise what will be in bloom for your trip.

Think about the features you love beyond the flowers: a pond, an old wall, garden steps or a view across the roofs. They help you choose a place you can still enjoy when the season has moved on.

Opening hours matter for the light too. A gated garden may open after sunrise or close before sunset. For a Travaya shoot, we’ll check the exact garden and time together. An earlier visit, or a nearby park or street afterwards, may fit the day better than planning everything around the last light.

Keep the Walk Comfortable

Good walking shoes make garden paths, slopes and steps much easier to enjoy. You can bring another pair for photos if you would like, while keeping the journey between places comfortable. Tell us about any steps, hills or long distances you would prefer to avoid, so the meeting point and route suit the people coming with you.

For a booked shoot, we check the arrangements for the specific place and the photography planned there. Rules can differ between gardens, and extra equipment or a larger group may change what is possible. We’ll also agree where to meet and what to do if access changes. With those details settled, there is more space to enjoy the part you came for: a lovely piece of Prague and time together in it.
