Where to Take Photos in Prague When It Rains

An umbrella for two, wet stone streets and colourful houses behind you. A few drops can give your Prague photos a charm of their own, with an excuse to stand a little closer.

A Few Drops or a Proper Downpour?

Kampa and Old Town have lovely streets for a little rainy-day wander. With light drizzle, a warm coat, an umbrella and short walks between stops may be all you need. The colours of the old houses can look especially rich against the wet paving, even when the sky has other ideas.

Steady rain calls for a drier place to pause, close to the spots you want to enjoy. Strong wind or a downpour may mean stopping. Choose one small area for the weather you have, with somewhere suitable to shelter nearby. A long walk across Prague is less charming when everyone has wet socks.

1. Kampa and the Space Beneath Charles Bridge

Kampa gives you colourful houses, old stone and Charles Bridge close by. In light rain, the lanes around the bridge can be a lovely setting for photos together under an umbrella. You still have that unmistakable Prague feeling, without spending the whole session out in the middle of the bridge.

In one Travaya family photoshoot around Kampa and Charles Bridge, a bench beneath the bridge gave the parents and their twins some shelter. There was time for photos of all four together and smaller moments with each parent. Then the rain became too heavy and the shoot ended early. They still had photos to send home to their family, from a very rainy day in the city where they lived.

Our five favourite Charles Bridge photo spots show the nearby stairs and riverbank settings. Pick the places that feel comfortable on the day. Wind can carry rain beneath the bridge, and wet steps deserve a slower pace.

2. Old Town: Pretty Streets in a Little Rain

Old Town’s lanes give you plenty to enjoy in a small area. Warm-coloured buildings, wooden doors and wet paving can look lovely together. Even a small side street can give you a lovely memory of the afternoon, with the two of you tucked under the same umbrella.

Keep the walk short, with a dry break nearby. The smaller streets may feel more comfortable than the open riverbank when the wind picks up, although they are still outdoor places. There is plenty to notice along the way, from the shape of an old doorway to the colours in the next row of houses.

You don’t need to wait for a huge puddle or a perfect reflection. Soft light, old buildings and the person beside you can be quite enough. Leave the difficult camera decisions to your photographer and enjoy the excuse for a little wander together.

3. The State Opera: A Short Stop in Light Rain

Near the National Museum, the State Opera has lamps, arched doors, steps and tall columns. There is plenty of character in its entrance, so it can be a lovely extra stop if you are already in this part of Prague and the rain has eased.

Treat it as an outdoor photo stop. Its grand doors and arches do not make it a confirmed rain shelter, and the steps may be slippery. If you would like to include the Opera in a Travaya shoot, we’ll check the space and arrangements first. The State Opera’s own page has the venue information.

What About Covered Passages or an Indoor Shoot?

Prague’s covered passages can make a rainy afternoon feel like a small discovery. Lucerna and Světozor are possibilities to consider. In the Světozor passage, the cinema and a film-poster shop give the place a character of its own.

For a booked photoshoot, we need to check three things: whether the space keeps the rain out, whether it will be open at your chosen time, and whether the planned photography is allowed. A covered entrance can still be wet in the wind, and a passage open to shoppers may have different rules for an organised shoot.

The same care applies to a café, hotel or museum. If an indoor setting is important to you, tell us beforehand so we can check the arrangements, including any permission or admission needed. You can then look forward to that part of the day, instead of arriving at a beautiful door and hoping it will open for your photos.

Is Prague Castle a Good Rain Backup?

Prague Castle can still look beautiful in a little rain, with its grand buildings and old stone around you. Its courtyards and paths include open, windy stretches, though, so it works better as a short stop when you are already nearby than as a last-minute dash across town for shelter.

The grounds, buildings and gardens have different opening times, and there are photography rules for the buildings. A visitor ticket alone does not settle the arrangements for a professional shoot. If an indoor castle space is part of your idea, Travaya will confirm what is possible before including it in the plan.

For a lighter spell, a few outdoor photos may be lovely. If the weather worsens, knowing where you can comfortably go next matters more than fitting in another courtyard.

Make a Little Route, with Somewhere Dry Nearby

A simple plan leaves more room to enjoy the day. Start with one area you would love in light rain, such as Kampa or a few Old Town streets. Pair it with a nearby dry place that has been checked for the time and use you need. Then agree what happens if the weather gets worse: a pause, a different location or a discussion about changing the session.

The important word is nearby. A covered spot on the other side of Prague will not help much when you are already cold and wet. You might enjoy a short walk during a lighter spell, return for a break, then decide together whether another little outing feels good.

If a bigger move is needed, check the current transport options and disruptions before setting off. There is no need to learn a complicated rain route in advance. For a Travaya shoot, we’ll help choose a plan that fits your group, so you can spend the day enjoying Prague instead of chasing the next dry doorway.

Keep Yourselves Warm and Dry

Bring an umbrella that is easy to hold and large enough to be useful. A simple colour works well, without casting a strong tint over your faces. Keep coats close by, even if you take them off for a few photos. A favourite coat can look lovely in the pictures too, especially when the day has a cosy feel.

Shoes with a good grip make wet paving and steps easier. Walk slowly and carry dressier shoes if you want to change somewhere safe. A small towel, a dry layer and a water-resistant bag for your things can help keep the afternoon comfortable. Any outfit change needs a dry, private place arranged beforehand.

For children, short spells outside and warm breaks are kinder than one long wet walk. Tell us if you are bringing a pushchair, several bags or anything that affects how easily your group can move. Your photographer looks after the camera; you can keep an eye on the little hands sharing your umbrella.

Know When a Dry Break Is the Better Plan

If the wind keeps turning your umbrella inside out, or anyone is getting cold, take a break. Wet steps, tram tracks and exposed river edges are places to take extra care, especially when an umbrella blocks part of your view. A warm drink is allowed to win this round.

For your Travaya shoot, we’ll talk through the weather and your plans with you. If a different time or place is possible, we’ll agree the change together under the arrangements for your booking. Any change depends on availability and the terms of your booking. Talk it through before setting off, so you know what to expect if the weather turns.

The best rainy-day memories can be quite small: a shared umbrella, the colour of the houses and being close together in a city you came to enjoy.
