A new home, and a little time to celebrate

After several years together, this couple had recently moved to Athens. A photoshoot felt like a lovely way to celebrate their new chapter, with a little piece of the city they now called home in the photographs. For their couple photoshoot in Athens, they chose Plaka: colourful streets, plenty of greenery and little corners that felt just right for them.

An afternoon below the Acropolis

We started our walk just below the Acropolis hillside, making our way through the little lanes of Plaka and Anafiotika. There were pale steps between old walls, flowers spilling over the rooftops and glimpses of the Acropolis above the houses. We made photographs along the way, mixing the wider street scenes with closer portraits so their new city could be part of the story without taking it over.

A green dress among Plaka’s colours

Her flowing green dress looked beautiful against the warm ochre walls, red shutters and climbing flowers. His white shirt and jeans kept the colours simple beside it. We used those different corners to give the photographs their own character: a little bench under an ornate window, a leafy doorway and the clean lines of blue and white walls. Even within the same neighbourhood, there was so much variety to play with.

Room to have a little fun

They were wonderfully relaxed together and enjoyed trying different ideas, which made room for a few twirls in the street as well as quieter moments together. We kept that mix in the photographs, with the Acropolis in some of the wider views and their connection at the centre of the closer ones.

The finished gallery brings the afternoon together: familiar warmth between two people who have spent years together, set among the colours of somewhere new. A little memory of Plaka, and of the beginning of their life together in Athens.
