A London Couple Photoshoot in Red at Big Ben

Red satin, riverside arches and a little Westminster bustle.

A touch of red around Westminster

Her red satin dress brought a lovely splash of colour to this couple’s photographs around Westminster. With his black suit and pale shirt alongside it, the two of them stood out beautifully against the river, stone arches and familiar skyline. We photographed them around Big Ben and Westminster Bridge, making their pictures together part of the London around them. It’s a lovely example of what time with a photographer in London can look like when your outfits and the city work so well together.

The river, the arch and a red satin dress

The Thames gave us several lovely ways to bring Westminster into the same shoot. Beneath the stone arch, the opening framed the couple with Big Ben beyond; along the riverside wall and steps, Parliament filled more of the view. We mixed those wider photographs with closer portraits, letting the red satin remain a thread through the different settings. The combination of warm stone, green bridge details and that rich colour gave the photographs a lovely sense of connection.

A little movement in the city

There was plenty of London character in the streets too. The red telephone boxes echoed her dress, while a passing double-decker bus became a broad sweep of colour behind them. We used that movement for a different feel alongside the stiller riverside portraits. The close photographs through the telephone-box windows added another view of the two of them, with the familiar red frame keeping the setting unmistakably London.

Together on Westminster Bridge

The bridge brought the river views together: Big Ben and Parliament in one direction, the London Eye across the water in another. Photographs walking hand in hand opened up the city around the couple, while the green railing gave the closer portraits a softer setting. Alongside the colour photographs, the black-and-white versions draw attention to their expressions and the lines of the architecture. The finished gallery holds both sides of this shoot: the two of them close together, and the London landmarks that make these photographs so specific to this place.
