London, with her in the picture

A red double-decker bus, Big Ben and a telephone box: this solo photoshoot brought some of London’s most familiar details into a very personal set of portraits. Her simple white dress stood out beautifully against the red paint and warm stone around Westminster. A little movement around Big Ben

We photographed around Westminster with Big Ben rising behind her and the city moving around the streets. The red bus brings a lovely splash of colour into the series, while the paler stone and greenery give the quieter portraits a softer setting.

The white dress ties those different backgrounds together. Its clean shape is easy to pick out in the wider views, and it works just as well in the closer photographs. We mixed the two kinds of framing, keeping enough of London in the picture without losing the person the shoot is about.

Red paint, old stone and a familiar roundel

The telephone box gave us another side of the same London setting. The bright red frame looks particularly lovely against her white dress, with space for both wider street views and closer portraits around the open door.

The Westminster Underground entrance also belongs in this gallery: another everyday London detail that makes the photographs feel rooted in the city. Colour and black-and-white images bring different moods to the same surroundings. The result is a small collection of portraits that hold the landmarks, the movement and her own place in the scene together.
