A little of everyday London

London’s stations can be part of the memory too. For this couple photoshoot, we made photographs at Paddington, bringing its brick arches, Underground signs and passing trains into the gallery. Under the brick arches

The warm brickwork gave these photographs a lovely depth, with tall arches around the couple and the familiar Paddington roundel adding a clear sense of place. We kept some views wide enough to show that architecture and others closer, so the people never disappear into the station.

Their light and dark coats worked well together against the textured wall. There is a nice simplicity to the colours: everyday clothes, warm stone and the red-and-blue sign, all belonging naturally in the same scene.

The brick arches and Paddington roundel bring the station into the couple’s photographs.

The city moving around them

A passing train brought a different energy to the series. Its movement contrasts with the couple in front of it, while the red beams and platform details give the photographs a stronger burst of colour. We also made portraits through a train-door window, using its frame to draw the eye back to the two of them.

The black-and-white photographs sit beautifully alongside the colour images, picking up the patterns in the brickwork and the shape of the arches. Together, the gallery keeps both sides of this shoot: the couple close together and a recognisable piece of London carrying on around them.
