One red box, a very London setting

For this solo photoshoot, a red telephone box became a little world of its own. Her dark denim outfit looked beautiful against its bright paint, with Big Ben adding a familiar London outline beyond the street. We made the most of that one setting, mixing full-length portraits with closer photographs around the door and through the glass. There is more inspiration for your own photoshoot in London.

Denim against the red paint

The colours do so much of the work in this series. The deep blue of her denim sits beautifully beside the telephone box, while the pale stone buildings keep the surrounding street simple. In the wider photographs, Big Ben gives everything a clear sense of place.

We kept room for the whole outfit in some portraits and came closer for others, giving the same setting a little variety. The photographs feel connected through those colours, with her at the centre rather than letting the landmark take over.

A closer look through the glass

The door and its small windowpanes gave us another way to photograph her. The red edges frame the closer portraits, and the glass brings a softer layer to the images made from outside. A black-and-white version offers a different take, drawing attention to her expression and the lines around the window.

There is no need for a long list of locations to make a set of portraits feel varied. Here, the wider street scene and the closer photographs belong together: a small London gallery with a clear style of its own.
