This Spanish couple wanted photographs of their journey towards parenthood. In the Gothic Quarter, shared smiles and hands resting on her bump kept the story close to the two of them.

Photographs of a new stage together

This young Spanish couple joined us for a maternity photoshoot in Barcelona, celebrating their journey towards parenthood. The Gothic Quarter gave them a changing backdrop of stone doorways, little streets and carved architecture. The photographs keep their connection at the centre: standing close, walking hand in hand and resting their hands together on her bump as they look forward to their little one.

Stone doorways and a picture of their little one

By a large doorway, the collection moves from wide portraits on the steps to close details of hands resting on her bump. Beneath the ornate bridge between the buildings, they brought their ultrasound photograph into the frame. Sometimes they hold it together; in other portraits, she holds it herself. That small picture adds a personal detail to photographs shaped by the stonework and narrow streets around them.

Walking, pausing and looking ahead

Hand in hand, they walked through the old streets and paused for portraits beside patterned walls. There are individual maternity photographs as well as images of the two of them together, with room for both a smile towards the camera and a quieter look at each other. On stone steps and in front of a carved cathedral entrance, their hands return to her bump. The collection records this stage of their lives through those gestures, alongside the setting they chose in Barcelona.
