A London backdrop for a very personal moment

With St Paul’s rising above the garden and the two of them on the lawn, this London shoot had a rather special moment at its heart: a proposal. Her flowing blue dress and his dark suit looked wonderful against the trees and pale stone. We photographed the question, the ring and their time together around this part of the city, bringing an engagement into focus with a photoshoot in London.

A question beneath the dome

Festival Gardens gave their proposal a lovely setting, with a stretch of green lawn and the cathedral dome above the trees. We left room for that unmistakable London view in the wider photographs, then came closer for the ring and the smiles between them. Those different perspectives keep both parts of the occasion together: the grand surroundings and a moment belonging just to these two. The blue of her dress brought a beautiful splash of colour to it all, especially against the gold and green leaves.

Blue against the stone and greenery

There was so much variety around St Paul’s for their engagement portraits. Beside the reflection pool, the greenery framed them and the dome above; at the cathedral, tall columns and a chequered floor gave us a completely different look. We made space for the movement of her dress as well as quieter portraits together. The photographs in colour bring out their blue outfits, while the black-and-white images draw attention to the two of them and the lovely shapes of the architecture.

Their engagement, with a little more of the city

The rooftop portraits brought the dome close behind them, while the Millennium Bridge opened up the view across the Thames. We also included one of London’s red telephone boxes, its bright colour looking wonderful beside her dress. Together, these settings gave this Travaya gallery a mix of intimate portraits and photographs full of city character. At the centre of the whole collection is the same milestone: their proposal at St Paul’s, and the beginning of their engagement.
